#NotOnMyWatch - Youth Sports Safety
Heeeeeeeeyyyyy Baller Moms. It’s me, Tammy B. I know, I know. I’ve been missing in action for months. But as most of you know, the Baller Moms have been super busy. To recap the past 3 months, Baller Moms officially became a 501c3 organization; the doors to our new facility, Ball Unlimited (House of Production) opened; and season one of the Baller Moms web series wrapped. Oh yeah, it’s been a ride and although I am tired just thinking about it, sleep is overrated when there is still work to do. Up next you ask? WE (that means you too) are about to launch our first campaign, which gets to the core of the Baller Moms’ mission. We will be “supporting the sport” by raising awareness regarding the safety of our student athletes through the #NotOnMyWatch campaign. Food for thought. Did you know that in 2012, more than 1.24 million children ages 19 and under were seen in emergency rooms for injuries related to 14 commonly played sports? Too many children, too many injuries. We have all sat on the sidelines, watched a child take a hard hit, watch them fall to the ground, and held our breath as we prayed that the child would be able to get up on their own and walk away. Just 2 years ago, I was unfortunate enough to have had that feeling when my son suffered a concussion as a running back. Only 2 months ago, Erika shared a story with Erin and I regarding an incident at this summer’s 6th Grade Basketball Nationals, where a child hit a 3-point buzzer beater to win the game, and then collapsed on the court!!! As Baller Moms, we hear these stories almost daily and we knew that we needed to get involved, somehow, in some way. So…..in walks Baller Mom Teka, who reminded us that she is CPR-certified. Uh oh..light bulb. Ding Ding Ding. How about we provide free CPR training to coaches, we thought. But Teka can’t do it on her own. www.google.com. Team Up DC offers free online certification to coaches in CPR, first aid, heat acclimatization, etc. Phone call. Partnership. BOOM! So now, all we need is YOU!!! This campaign is titled Not On My Watch. If you are a Baller Mom, coach, sports enthusiast, or just someone who cares about the safety of our youth, then we need you to:
